Amending client details (including bank accounts)
In most cases, you can amend client details by sending us a secure message. However, changes to bank account details and name changes may require a different process.
You can send us a secure message to:
- Update an address if it cannot be completed online
- Amend a National Insurance number
- Amend a name (only in the case of a mistake – not for a legal change of name)
- Start or stop marketing mail.
To send us a secure message, select 'Firm' from the left-hand menu, and then 'Secure Messaging'. We aim to reply to secure messages within five business days.

How do I update a client’s address?
You can update a client’s address online, by selecting 'Personal details' below the client’s name and then clicking on 'Manage all personal details’.
The exceptions are as follows:
- Clients with a different registered and correspondence addresses
- Clients who are in the British Forces, overseas or are deceased.
If your client falls within the exceptions, please contact us on 0800 41 41 81.
Please note, a correspondence address can differ to a registered address and will not affect any dealing requests such as a transfer.
How do I change my client’s bank account?
You can update your client’s bank account online:
- To add a bank account, simply click into the ’Client Summary’ and ’manage personal details’, where you will be able to add new bank details.
- If you are selling investments to withdraw money or want to change the direct debit for a regular savings plan, once you’ve added the bank details these will be available for you to select when you instruct a sell or amendment for a regular savings plan.
How do I amend a client’s name?
If you just need to correct a mistake, it's best to send us a secure message.
To update your clients account with a change of name, you can provide the relevant legal documents - for example, a marriage certificate - via Upload and Send.
If your client wishes to inform us of their change of name directly, we need a signed letter from them, along with the relevant legal document. This must be an original, as the General Register Office guidance says birth and marriage certificates should not be photocopied for this purpose.
