Advisers balance selection of active and passive funds in June, latest FundsNetwork sales figures reveal

Data from FundsNetwork reveals an almost even split of active and passive exposures within its list of most popular funds selected by advisers last month.

The Global sector retained its position as the bestselling during June, while Property re-entered the list of most popular sectors for the month.

Vanguard LifeStrategy 60% Equity Fund was the bestselling overall, followed by LifeStrategy 40% Equity Fund in second place - also the most popular ISA fund. HSBC FTSE 250 Index Retail topped the list of bestselling pension funds.

Paul Richards, Head of Sales at FundsNetwork, comments: “Our latest figures show that both active and passive funds remain in favour, as advisers look at the best ways of helping clients to meet their objectives. While some are wedded to one style or another, there is clear evidence that many recognise the role of both strategies in helping to achieve clients’ goals and are blending styles to achieve a lower overall cost for them.

“For years, debate has sought to argue the merits of one approach over another - as if they might be mutually-exclusive. However, with both active and passive strategies offering potential benefits to investors, many now believe the two styles are complimentary rather than competing.”
