The FCA is proceeding with the implementation of the Consumer Duty principles over the next few months.
Whilst some may consider there is nothing new here, given all FCA regulated firms have had to abide by Treating Customers Fairly principles and their duties around common law for several years now, the rules are a sea change and would set clearer and higher expectations for firms’ standards of care towards consumers. Any changes that are needed to comply with these new standards will need to be in place by 30 April 2023.
